Direct peering active with T-Mobile (USA), SoftBank (JP), and Telstra (AU) for sub-40ms edge latency.

Technology & Remote Provisioning

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM (Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card) is a non-removable digital SIM integrated into your mobile hardware. It enables Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP), allowing users to activate cellular data via encoded QR profiles without physical media.

Global LBO Peering

Our infrastructure utilizes Local Breakout (LBO) roaming agreements. By peering with Tier-1 carriers like T-Mobile (USA) and SoftBank (JP), we ensure research data bypasses congested international gateways for unthrottled 5G speeds.

Secure Provisioning

Every eSIM profile is generated through a secure SM-DP+ (Subscription Manager Data Preparation) server. We use AES-256 encryption for session keys, ensuring your device's unique EID remains private and secure during the OTA handshake.

Activation Guide

Follow our verified provisioning sequence for 5G unthrottled access.

Mandatory: Your device must be Network Unlocked. Students with devices locked to specific US or JP carriers must contact their provider for an international unlock before scanning the QR code.

Apple iOS Configuration

01 Navigate to Settings > Cellular
02 Select Add eSIM and choose Use QR Code
03 Scan the verified code from your .edu inbox
04 Set as Secondary and enable Data Roaming

Android & Pixel Configuration

01 Open Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs
02 Tap (+) and select Download a SIM instead?
03 Scan your unique academic provisioning QR code
04 Toggle Use SIM and allow 5G Network roaming

Digital Rights & Connectivity in Higher Education

The freeesim.edu.pl initiative addresses a critical gap in student mobility: digital accessibility. As international programs like Erasmus+, Fulbright, and Monash exchange expand, the cost of staying connected has become a "hidden tax" on the academic community.

Democratizing 5G Mobile Data

Access to information should not be restricted by geographical boundaries. For a researcher in the field or a developer testing unthrottled 5G latency in Japan or the USA, cellular data is the lifeline to their host institution. We provide this utility through a decentralized network of volunteer engineers and philanthropic funding.

Privacy-Preserving Roaming Architecture

Unlike commercial eSIM providers that monetize roaming patterns for targeted advertising, our academic trials are built on a privacy-first architecture. Our SM-DP+ servers utilize zero-knowledge principles—we do not track user traffic, sell identity profiles, or inject trackers into your global 5G connection.

Sustainable Non-Profit Provisioning

By operating as a registered non-profit initiative based in Warsaw, we utilize 100% of donor grants to provision data buckets. This lean model ensures that 2.5GB of high-speed data is delivered to verified students at zero cost, bypassing the standard 300% markup applied by commercial carriers in Australia and North America.

Support & Academic FAQ

Technical details regarding our grant-funded 5G provisioning.

How is this service 100% free?

As a non-profit academic initiative, all data buckets are provisioned via corporate digital equity grants. We do not require credit cards, and we never monetize user data. Our goal is strictly to facilitate global academic mobility.

Who is eligible for the 5G trial?

Access is restricted to students, researchers, and faculty with a valid .edu, .ac, or .edu.pl email address. Developers may apply via the Research Sandbox by providing a brief networking use-case.

Does it support 5G in the USA & Japan?

Yes. We utilize Tier-1 unthrottled peering. In the USA, we connect via T-Mobile/AT&T 5G NR bands. In Japan, we use SoftBank/KDDI infrastructure. Coverage is optimized for unthrottled academic VPN access.

What happens when the 2.5GB expires?

The eSIM profile will automatically deactivate after 7 days or once the data limit is reached. There are no hidden fees or auto-renewals. Users can re-apply for a new grant every academic semester.

Device Check: Support includes iPhone 11-16, Google Pixel 4-9, Samsung S20-S24, and un-locked 5G iPad/Surface models.
